                 Learning to Paraglide

                                   Your Instructor

At Midland Paragliding we are committed to making sure your flying with us is a fabulous experience where your safety is paramount. We do this by:

  1. Employing BHPA* trained professional caring instructors.

  2. Training you in small groups (max. 5 novices) ensuring more personal instruction time.

  3. Flying you on some of the most beautiful and safest sites in the Midlands , South ,East ,and West of Ireland.

  4. Using highest quality, user friendly training paragliders - harnesses - radios - helmets etc.....all included in the price.

  5. Working flexible teaching hours. We stay on the hill as long as it takes (we don't just hurry off at 5 o'clock!)

  6. Constantly seeking to improve our quality of service to you.

  7. Offering the highest standards as Irelands first IAA registered training facility for paragliding & paramotoring.

  8. Our affiliation with the Irish Powered Paragliding & Hang-gliding Association

Training is usually conducted on gentle nursery slopes, practising take offs and 'low hops', all the time under our expert tuition. All our instructors are very experienced pilots with a caring and enthusiastic attitude committed to maximising your enjoyment and safe progress. Your instructor will explain how the canopy is laid out, checked, inflated and how it is controlled when on the ground and in the air ; you'll then take it in turns with other members of your group to have your first short training hops...........

When you've become adept at ground handling, controlling airspeed and making gentle turns, you'll go to a higher hill for longer flights. As you gain experience you'll learn to soar - to stay up in favourable winds and make longer flights. Eventually top landing and no more climbing slopes and onward to flying for many miles across  the Irish countryside........Heaven

Your course will also cover flight theory, meteorology and basic airlaw. With a positive assessment from your instructor on your flying, you'll be given your first rating. After attaining EP Pilot rating you may fly with supervision only. Club Pilot involves more advanced flying and also getting experience in different demanding conditions, flying numerous different sites, on successful completion of these tasks and a simple written exam you will then be awarded Club Pilot pilot rating, you are now free to soar unsupervised, as free as a bird but you are advised to join a club and never fly on your own.

 * BHPA* trained instructors : Means that your instructor has been trained by the British Hang-gliding & Paragliding Association.
