Important things you should know

Training Syllabus. We instruct our students using the IPPHA training syllabus which mirrors the internationally recognised BHPA syllabus and has been accepted by the Irish Aviation Authority. It is Internationally acknowledged as being one of the best and safest systems there is, and guarantees the student very safe progression in a very structured learning environment.

Training school or taking a chance . Adventure sports like Paragliding & Paramotoring attract adventurous personalities who sometimes take calculated risks and that is part of the attraction to them in the particular sport of their choice. Paragliding or Paramotoring are aviation based sports and as such should be treated with respect. As a risk taker if "you" are one, you should take your risks in the safe environment of a training school as anything less could prove fatal to you or some innocent passer-by. We want you to realise your dreams and have lots of good memories to reflect back on in old age. Paragliding & Paramotoring are very exhilarating activities & you will meet like minded people in the sport and make a lot of new friends.

Midland Paragliding is Irish Aviation Authority Certified!

Safety. As with any skilled, risk sport there are a vast number of potential dangers hidden to the novice. When paragliding first started, many of us learned by trial and error. Relative to today, our progress was slow and we used low performance stable paragliders. Now you can quickly gain access to higher performance paragliders which give you longer more exciting flying. These paragliders are generally less forgiving however, and rapidly force you through a range of situations that require you to act forewarned to enable you to fly safely. Our Rating System provides you with a detailed record of your progress, and highlights any inexperience requiring attention and will take you right up to Club Pilot rating.

Skills. The longer you fly, the less walking becomes a major part of the day! Progression through the different skill levels will enable you to continuously update your piloting skills while gaining more and more  experience. You will learn to identify flying sites and assess weather conditions. You will be able to spot potential areas of lift and danger which will help you towards your first soaring flights and on to thermal and cross country flying. Gaining the basic skills of decision making, air law, and canopy handling is vital and will stand you in good stead whatever level you aspire to.

Access. Good flying sites are at a premium. We have worked hard for many years to keep our sites open and have access agreements with  Coillte, RTE  and landowners that require you to be qualified, insured and hold a current membership card for access. Once you have been flying for a while, you'll see that it is immediately apparent whether a pilot is competent and safe in the air ... or not! Many of our sites are uniquely situated with hard earned access negotiated with land owners. So it is vital to all our interests that we keep a competent and responsible attitude and profile to land owners and the public. As more and more people are coming into our sport it becomes increasingly important to improve our skills and maintain our regard for the environment.
